character model appears to z fight with its own shadow and leave behind shadow artifacts?

It looks as if the character model is Z fighting with its own shadow, turning transparent and leaving artifacts behind.
This is a new level just with some very basic stuff in it. have double checked the model, there is nothing wrong with that. there is only a single basic grey material on the character, the ground is a normal plane scaled up. UE5.4.1

Appreciate any help people can offer.

which shadow method is this?

Everything is still at default so everything is set to moveable.
