Chair Device Positions Players Too High When Crouching or Sliding Before Sitting

Summary

Chair Device sometimes positions players approximately 15 cm too high when sitting down after crouching or sliding. This issue occurs frequently during normal gameplay and affects all default chair models as well as custom chairs with custom sitting animations. Depending on the sitting animation, particularly with reclined positions, the incorrect height can cause significant visual misalignment.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Place a Chair Device using its default settings and default sitting animation.
  2. Start a game session and approach the chair.
  3. Press the crouch key shortly before interacting with the chair to sit down. Alternatively, try sliding into the chair.
  4. Observe that the character may be positioned approximately 15 cm too high while sitting.
  5. If the issue does not occur on the first attempt, slightly vary the timing of pressing the crouch key and interacting with the chair. The issue is easily reproducible and does not require any custom assets or animations.

Expected Result

The player should always be positioned at the correct height when sitting in a Chair Device, regardless of whether they were standing, crouching, or sliding immediately before sitting down. The sitting position should remain consistent across all default and custom chair models and sitting animations.

Observed Result

When sitting down shortly after crouching or sliding, the player is frequently positioned approximately 15 cm above the intended sitting position. This issue is reproducible with the default Chair Device, default chair models, and default sitting animations, but also affects custom chairs with custom sitting animations.

The severity of the visual misalignment depends on the sitting animation. While it may be less noticeable with standard sitting positions, it can be significantly more disruptive with custom animations, especially reclined or partially lying-down poses, where the player visibly floats above the chair.

Additional Notes

The exact trigger has not yet been identified. The issue appears to be related to crouching or sliding shortly before sitting down, but it is unclear whether the timing of pressing or holding the crouch key, the crouch animation transition, or the crouch state itself is responsible.

One possible explanation is that the Chair Device does not always correctly account for the player’s vertical position during transitions between standing, crouching, and sitting. This is only a hypothesis, not a confirmed cause.

The attached video demonstrates the issue using a completely default Chair Device with no custom assets or animations. The issue also occurs with custom chairs and sitting animations, where the resulting misalignment can be much more noticeable.
