[link text][1]This strange bug sometimes occurs when using Material Functions.
It gives me an error like this:
“The asset ‘/Game/Data/Materials/Terrain/Functions/SlopeBlend_Master’ (SlopeBlend_Master.uasset) failed to save.”
or
“The asset ‘/Game/Data/Materials/Terrain/Grass/F_GrassThick’ (F_GrassThick.uasset) failed to save.”
I’ve created two example materials. Although these Functions are completely identical one of them let’s me save without a problem, the other one doesn’t. Could it be that there’s some Problem with another function I use in both of these Functions? It’s a fairly complex bump offset I’ve derived from the Starter Content; I’ve attached it to this report.
Hey Datarecovery09,
Can you reproduce this in a new project with any duplicate Material Functions, or is it specific to this material function itself?
If you can reproduce this in a simple project with just the Material Functions, you can send me your project in a zipped folder so I can test on my end?
If you cannot, I will try to take the function you have provided in the image and replicate the issue.
Thanks,
Hi,
Sorry, but I can’t reproduce it reliably. The error just occurs at random, but - as for now - only when I use somewhat complex material functions (like this multilayered bump offset or a triplanar mapping function) or when I “ctrl+c, ctrl+v” a bunch of nodes from one material/function into another.
Nonetheless, I’ve created an example project that contains this bump offset function as well as a material and another function that make use of it. It’s only 55 MB, so I’ve uploaded it via Google Drive:

Since I can work around it most of the time it’s not very urgent, but it can be a little bit annoying to wire up a complex material for several minutes and then not being able to save it.^^
Thanks in advance!
Julius Weber
Ps: Btw, is there any special place where one can suggest new features for the engine?
I will try my best to reproduce the issue on my end, but cannot guarantee a successfully case. If I am able to get this issue to reproduce, I will enter an official report and return with the bug information.
In regards to the feature request, we generally tell users to post them in the Feedback section of the Forums. You can also create a new AnswerHub post, but be sure to put ‘Feature Request’ somewhere in the label/tag as well as the title.
Let me know if you have further questions.
Thank you,
