"cannot_transfer" error when transferring a project to another team in Creator Portal

Summary

Hi all,

I’m trying to transfer an island project from one team to another in the Creator Portal so I can publish it under the new team, but the transfer fails with:

[DEP] Backend dependency returned unexpected error errors.com.epicgames.content-service.cannot_transfer

[Some details]

  • I’m ‘Admin’ on both teams

  • The project hasn’t been published before

  • Monetization / in-island transactions: no

  • Any pending release or review: no

I found a thread on the Epic dev forums with the same error, but it was closed without a fix or any staff reply.

Has anyone gotten a transfer to go through after seeing this? Was there something blocking it on the project side, or did you have to go through Epic support? Any tips appreciated. Thanks!

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a project in Fortnite Creative (or UEFN) under a personal account.
  2. In the Creator Portal, create a team or join an existing one, and confirm the account has full permissions on that team.
  3. Open the Creator Portal (or the UEFN Content Service page), select the project, and choose “Transfer”.
  4. Enter the destination team ID and confirm the transfer.

Expected Result

The project should be transferred to the selected team and appear in the team’s project list. This should work whether or not the project has been opened in UEFN, so creators without a PC can use teams.

Observed Result

The transfer fails with the following error:
“[DEP] Backend dependency returned unexpected error errors.com.epicgames.content-service.cannot_transfer”

The project stays under the personal account. Projects that were never opened in UEFN can’t be transferred at all; the transfer option only becomes available after the project is converted into a UEFN project.

FORT-1171515 has been created and its status is ‘Unconfirmed’. This is now in a queue to be reproduced and confirmed.

Clarification for FORT-1171515: the issue happens when a member of our team tries to transfer a project from their personal account into our team. The member has full permissions on the team, but the transfer fails with the “cannot_transfer” error and the project stays under their personal account.
