I think you have to take the layers off. The one you’ve selected is a dirt sand thing like a quarry look which is below the sand/mud so even if it was under the sand/mud you wouldn’t notice Select the sand layer further down then try again.

Never mind, found out you need to select the sand layer to be able to remove it. Quite logical
