Can you share Unreal ‘Store Assets’ across multiple Unreal accounts for a singular game project?
Hey all,
I couldn’t or I should say, didn’t have any luck finding a thread which touched on this topic. If you know of one please link it to me
Basically I am in development for a game with a team of 9. We are looking at purchasing some assets from the Unreal store and weren’t sure what the go is with sharing(licensing) that content across multiple Unreal accounts. Obviously, technically I can copy and use the files across multiple account easily but as lead developer I am purchasing all software for my team so my 3 modelers and animators need to use the single assets that I purchased.
Is this ok or is there another way to do this sort of thing properly so that the assets are shared natively within the engine rather than just copying the files across each computer in a “hacky” way?
We really need to know as we do fully intend to publish this game.
Although not 100% clear, basically you wouldn’t be able to give them the full marketplace content as the marketplace content is linked to your account and not theirs. The safest way is to get your friend to buy it as well and then there should be no problems.
There might be a grey area where you have purchased a pack (for example particle effects) and you are using the Torch in your game. You then give access to your game to another developer … although not strictly covered by the FAQ, I don’t think anyone will really frown on this usage. However that same particle should not be used by that developer in another project … as I said … very fine line.
Your best option would be to PM or Email the supplier of the Marketplace content and ask them if it is ok. Epic staff might chime in here … so please don’t take my word as gospel.
All good, spoke to the dev and it is fine to share it amongst your project team or any future projects so long as you are attached to the team you have licence to share it.
