My current GPU is a 1070 Ti with 8GB of VRAM, and I use it with a 4K monitor. UE5 often gives me a “not enough VRAM” warning, even with very few objects. As a result, I’m considering purchasing a new GPU. However, the RTX 4090 and RTX 5090 are too expensive for me right now, while the more affordable RTX 4080 and RTX 5080 only have 16GB of VRAM. I’ve also seen some 22GB versions of the 2080 Ti on the market at a third of the price of an RTX 5080, which seems promising. I’m considering buying two of these to install on my motherboard. Would this be possible?
Greetings @panxuanren!
Checking through the community, SLI and other forms of dual/mirror GPU do not bring the best results for UE:
Personally, I would suggest going for a 3090, with at least 24 VRAM, instead of a double setup.
My current concern is that a modified RTX 2080 Ti with 22GB VRAM costs only 1/3 of an RTX 3090 24GB. If two of these modified 2080 Ti cards don’t allow me to make use of all 44GB VRAM effectively, a single modified RTX 2080 Ti with 22GB still seems promising to me given the price difference.
well… the 22 GB of resoldered vram are still not improving the gpu compute capacity. you can store more stuff, but it will not compute faster. hmm…
You could but you’d have to set the scalability to pretty low to avoid severe frame rate drops or crashes, Wich would make it difficult to test visuals if it’s a game that really pushed Unreal capabilities. To use unreal, as previously suggested at least a 3090 would be ideal. A cpu with at least 3.8 ghz, and 32 gb ram would be ideal
Hello again!
As stated by the other users in the thread, CPU capacity is critical for Unreal use.
My backup PC is currently running a GeForce RTX 3080 12GB GDDR6X LHR, along with a Core I7 12700KF, which is a bit of an old setup for these days, yet still manages to work on a game prototype in UE5 with no issues.
After several days of comparing, my highest budget allows for graphics cards such as the RTX3090, RTX 4080 Super, RTX 5070 Ti, or Radeon RX 7900 XTX. What do you recommend?
Hello again!
From those options, it’s a pretty close tie between the RTX 5070 Ti and the RX 7900 XTX. The first one has an edge in memory, while the second one has it in performance. From my personal experience, I had better results with nVidia, and RTX support for realtime ray tracing is great. But at the end of the day, any of them will work with UE.
Just remember, most calculations from engine use the CPU, so please try to avoid creating a bottleneck between a powerful GPU and a weak CPU.
Thank you for sharing!
I threw both the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 in my cart at the same time on a shopping website. I’ll buy whichever one I can actually check out and snag first.
For the cpu part I now have a 9950x + 192G RAM that seems to be adequate by now..
