Bullet trace on ray-trace weapons?


I’ve been looking but can’t find a solution for visual bullet traces for weapons using ray trace and doesn’t actually have a physical bullet.

Where can I find help (text or video) on how to emulate what I’m after? Or is it preferred that one actually uses ridiculously fast bullets?
