BSOD on Mesh Creation 1.2.2

Using 1.2.2. Working fine until I installed the local version of Google Earth Pro. Since then, every time I attempt to create a mesh at normal detail, the GPU maxes out and runs hot until I get a BSOD error video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. Have updated nvidia drivers twice with no change. Windows11. nvidia rtx4070. Running 1.2.1 on an older windows 10 machine with no problems. Any suggestions?

Hi StLCrashman,
if you uninstall Google Earth is it working after that?

Nope. Uninstalled Google Earth. Same problem. Repaired windows using DISM and sfc /scannow and fixed any issues with the windows install. Update Nvidia drivers twice. Rolled back nvidia drivers and tried using 1.2.1. Still the same problem. GPU maxes out at 100% even with GPU acceleration turned off in the mesh process. Fan runs at 100% until the temp rises to where it shuts down the computer.

Ran the same project on my old machine using 1.2.1 and the fan doesn’t even turn on on my old nvidia gtx 1070.

Ran the same project through Photomodeler with no issues. No problems using any other graphics intensive software.

The failure message comes from directX but with the windows image repaired, it doesn’t seem like that should be an issue.

It’s almost as though it’s trying to use the GPU as the primary source of the calculations instead of the CPU.

Normally these issues resolve when Nvidia issues a new driver but there’s already been two since the problem started.

This seems to me like some HW issue, not sure if it is connected with RC, as it is happening for you also in older release.
I found this troubleshoot: [6 Fixes!] Video Dxgkrnl Fatal Error in Windows 11/10
Have you tried those?

Went through all of those. If it were a hardware issue, I would expect to see it occur in other graphics intensive software like Photomodeler that is doing essentially the same things.

I already used DISM and sfc scannow to fix any windows issues so it doesn’t seem like the issue.

Right now, it works on my old laptop using 1.2.1 and an old nvidia driver, so I’m not going to change anything there. I’ll just hope that some combination of windows updates, Reality Capture Updates and nvidia drivers will eventually solve the problem. Every other piece of software I have seems to work fine so it’s not worth starting from scratch to fix one program.
