Hi, may sound like a dumb question, but BlendSpace1D appears in Legacy section now. Does it mean, that this some early stage of deprectation? Should I continue to use it or better go for the 2D version, now simply called BlendSpace?
If so, what’s the difference between deprecated and legacy?
Hi there, hope you’re well
Yeah, the fact that BlendSpace1D is now listed under the “Legacy” section does suggest that it is in an early stage of deprecation. This means that while the feature is still available and supported for the time being, it may eventually be removed from the engine in a future release.
In general, I recommend using te 2d version of it because, as legacy, it can be deprecated any time.
"Deprecated "generally refer to features or tools that are no longer actively developed or maintained, and may be removed from the engine in future releases. “Legacy” is often used to describe older features that are still available and supported, but may be replaced by newer versions in the future.
If you ave any questions, please let me know.
Thanks for the reply. For now I did go for the 1D version - just because it is simpler and more straightforward than a 2D version for cases, where only one dimension is needed (maybe even with less overhead) - but I consider to switch to the BlendSpace to be ‘future save’.
Would be interesting to know the reason why it’s categorized as legacy. It’s still a pretty handy asset type
I’m also curious. Blend space works, but why do I need an empty (vertical) axis? Is there any documentation on the reason that could feed my curiosity?
The docs here explain why Blend Space 1D is now legacy/deprecated:
“Although 1D Blend Spaces are available, normal 2D graphs can also be used in a one-dimensional way by only using a single axis for your sample placement. This way, you can expand the Blend Space from 1D to 2D if needed.”
Sure, just leaving out the vertical axis works. And I did convert all my 1D Blend Spaces to 2D default versions. Still not getting the point, and my suspicion is (not having checked the source code) - that this may not be as performant.
BTW: finding this post by @MostHost_LA makes me rethink that Blend Space stuff. Cite from him
Or if really needed the 1ds for speed variations.
