Black Sparkling Spots Appearing on Skin During MetaHuman Rendering

I am experiencing an issue where black spots appear on the skin during MetaHuman rendering, and these spots seem to sparkle or flicker. Could you please help me understand the cause and how to fix it?

From the looks of your screenshot, my first guess would be that the metahuman asset has Nanite enabled, which is prone to cause artifacts to appear. Open the asset in editor, and make sure that Nanite Support is disabled.

If that is not the case, to rule out pre-existing elements on your system, please update your OS to the latest version, and update your video drivers to the Developer version (pick the “Clean Install” option if available).

In case the problem remains active, there are more options to test:

  • Switch between FXAA and TSR
  • Alternate between DX11 and DX12
  • If you re using Virtual Shadow Maps, disable them, and test with traditional shadows or ray traced shadows instead (do the opposite if your setup’s the other way around)
  • Choose fixed LOD levels, or test each level one by one, to see if one of them is generating the problem
