Black blotches on nanite in 5.7

I’m getting black blotches on Nanite meshes in UE5.7, happens in both 5.7.0 and 5.7.1. It only happens when a mesh has nanite enabled, in the image below I created a new third person template project and added a sphere with the modelling tool , when I enabled nanite on it the black blotches came. I’ve googled and couldnt see anyone else complaining about this but when I installed UE 5.7 on my second computer as a test I got the same problem but the blotches were less.

Anyone have any ideas what is causing this or if there is a fix. THe only fix I found was to disable hardware raytracing but I need this for Megalights in the project I’m currently working on. The issue happens in the editor and when I press play as a stand alone game

Hi WonderFactory,

5.7 has a new project setting: create Ray-Tracing Proxies. Usually ray-tracing only uses the fallback mesh which can cause these types of issues.

You could also test be disabling Megalights. The default directional light should no use ray tracing and the issues should thus disappear.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Ray-tracing proxies seems to be enabled by default in the test project I did a screen shot of above. Also Megalights is disabled by default in this project and I’m getting the black blotches on the green sphere

What type of shadows are you using? Those look extremely aliased on the green ramp to the left.

This is just the out of the box settings after installing 5.7.1 and creating a blank project with the third person template. Virtual shadow maps are used by default for direct lighting and ray traced shadows are off
