Best VR Framework and Rig Setup for Mannequins in Multiplayer

Hey! We’re working on a VR multiplayer game in Unreal Engine where players control realistic characters like MetaHumans or optimized mannequins. We tried VRGK, but replication on dedicated servers was rough. Now we’re eyeing DragonIK for full-body IK, paired with VR Expansion Plugin (great for multiplayer) or VR IK Body to make the mannequin rig work smoothly in VR. Any tips on the best framework combo or server-side replication setup? Thanks for any insights!

Hey! I am currently tying to set this up in my cross-platform multiplayer project, if possible without any third-party plugin. Basically my pawn mimics the same behaviour like it’s used in VRChat. There are some minor issues with the IK rig which I will fix in the next weeks.

Can’t say much about the mentioned full-body IK rigs, watched their demo videos on yt and was not convinced.

I think the best framework is the one you created yourself, if you have the time of course. So for online services I didn’t have that time, so for this I am using the “EOS Integration Kit”.

"Hi there!

I read your post about using VRGK for a multiplayer project. I’m currently using the paid version of VRGK as well and I’m very interested in making it work for multiplayer.

I noticed you mentioned that replication on dedicated servers was quite rough with this template. Did you eventually manage to get VRGK fully replicated, or did you decide to switch entirely to the VR Expansion Plugin / DragonIK combo?

If you found a way to make VRGK work for multiplayer, I’d love to hear any tips or insights you might have on how you approached the replication logic.

Thanks in advance for your help!"
