Hi, im currently trying to find the best HDRI lighting setup for archviz interiors/exteriors. Ideally, if I could use the HDRIbackdrop to light the scene with GPUlightmass that would be perfect but I cannot seem to get the results im looking for. I’ve set a few scenes up with importance volume and portals but baking the lighting using HDRbackdrop doesn’t give me defined lighting as expected. Could anyone point me in the right direction for a setup that works best for detailed lighting that can be baked in for stills and animation work? I have a 1080ti so a bit limited in terms of RTX support. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
With the HDRi, it has to be set onto a plane exactly so there’s no light leaking. A skylight goes with the HDRi, and it’s set to movable to start, so I’m not sure if it’s possible to set it to stationary without a change in how the HDRi then appears. If it is, it would probably require some amount of ‘repair’ and modification to get the correct lighting. RTX still isn’t completely without its caveats or major limits yet (e.g., reflections and translucency), so it’s best to commit to non-RTX settings. Have you read the page on HDRi backdrops and how to set it up to start?
