Beam / Particle Emitter

Hi Guys

I’m new to the particle system so please forgive my ignorance.
I’ve watched the video tutorial series on particles but am unable to find what I’m looking for.

I want to tie two objects together using a stream of particles

I have my beam emitter setup correctly with the source and target working.
How do I break the beam so that it is not a solid line and instead is filled with a stream of particles ?

Alternatively is there a way to add a source and target to a standard sprite emitter ?
