At the Mountains of Madness: Call of Cthulhu [WIP]

What is At the Mountains of Madness
At the Mountains of Madness is a Indie Lovecraftian PC game based in the novel by H.P. Lovecraft, currently under development.

The game will be Horror/Science Fiction based on a Expedition to the Antarctic continent back in the 1930’s, right now we are focused at game mechanics and trying to set up a realistic Antarctic enviroment, check out some editor prints:

We are a Independent Gaming company, actually we are two developers focused in the project. The game is in early development stage and is being developed with Unreal Engine 4.
We have setup a simple blog and twitter for now, if you are interested on this be sure to check it out and follow us to stay alert from our updates at

Best Regards and Thank you!

This looks really good and I’m very excited. I also hope this game doesn’t have combat or at least doesn’t focus on it to capture the Cthulhu feel of being vulnerable and helpless. But from these screenshots, either way, the game looks promising! Keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot for the comment Immersor, there is nothing better than read something like this at the morning before starting to work on it ^^
You are right about the combat; the game won’t be focused on shooting or else, you will have to fight against the elements, get involved in strange and dangerous situations and some more cool things

We will keep this post updated with the new stuff etc, thanks again!

YYYYEEEEESSSSS!!!

This looks really promosing! As a Lovecraft fan I really wish the best for you guys…I can’t promise anything, but if you need a rigger for Cthulhu or the main character I will be very happy to do that

Thanks a lot Nicolas! You are very kind will be good to stay in contact in the case we need more riggs, i checked some of your Tools and they are looking great

Regards!

Looks interesting. Environments are coming along nicely. =)

Looking good  Keep up the good work!

Thanks a lot for your answers guys we really appreciate that  Here is a new pic inside the excavation :stuck_out_tongue:

Tekeli-li! Tekeli-li!

Keep up the good work!

It’s looking great so far, last Cthulu game I played was in 2005, so my thirst is there

Thank you very much for the comments, really  As I see that you like and have interest on it here you have some more preview photos

Hey man!

I really love the idea! However…I have to raise some criticism^^ You stated above: “…and trying to set up a realistic Antarctic enviroment…” I honestly think that what I see does not at all look realistic! It looks like a snowy game landscape…but not realistic.

Have a look at this:

and here is the Polycount thread for it: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118116&page=3 Its quite old and the dude did an amazing job in building his own physically based BRDF for UDK, so actually something like this is now easier to achieve with Unreal 4. However, what makes it look so good it not only the lighting and the shading, but look at the design and the features of the landscape! Thats what I think is off in your landscape.

So yeah…please dont get me wrong^^ I really like what I see. But I also think it could be improved a lot

Cheers!

Thanks for the answer, and i agree with you; the game is at early stage and we keep learning every day, thats why i wrote “…and trying to set up a realistic Antarctic enviroment…” because we still trying to make the enviroment more realistic, we want to reproduce the old Ross Barrier and some beautiful and strange enviroments actually based in real pictures.
Here is one real example of what we wanted to reproduce with back mountains

The video inspired us, thanks for sharing it its true that the design is very realistic, i loved it

Please all feel free to critic everything you think, thats a very good way for us to learn

Best regards!

First Pre-Alpha Gameplay Video, first post updated. Enjoy!

Looking good guys!

the wood looks amazing detailed! :3 i really like the art

many thanks guys! We are glad you like the work we are making. The art on the webpage is just a portion of a collection of pictures of old explorers in antarctic continent, their tents and objects they used, landscapes that they saw… These explorers sometimes turned mad after coming back from antarctic continent and actually Lovecraft mentions some of these old explorers several times.
Regards!

This is looking really good. I love Lovecraft. I really like the part in the video when you look out into the ocean and see the iceberg shelf.

Will there be some sort of sanity mechanic?
