It looks like this version is finding some extra files and pulling them in when cooking TC mods, including several umaps associated with TheIsland
Maybe Iām not understanding how a Total Conversion works. Iāve put an empty folder in the mods directory, cleared out the map name and selected cook total conversion. Ive made no changes to core files and its cooking over 197K shaders. At this rate it would be over a 2hr cook for a TC thats unedited. Is that normal? Cooking my mod, I never noticed it take this long or cook this much.
Edit: Reading is fundamental saw in the dev kit documentation that it will need to recompile shaders and that subsequent builds wont be as long as they will be cached. I guess updating to the latest dev kit cause shaders to recompile for anyone else wondering.
Yes, unfortunately everytime you update, you are āmodifyingā multiple files. Once you modify those files, the shaders have to re-compile. Currently, the epic launcher saves a backup and āre-createsā the core file list, so theyāre all ānewā files. So yes, they all have to be recompiled :(. You can save alot of time by opening the island map after updating though.

with 201.5 devkit, my mod crashed I only changed some value that works before, is it because of the mannul download?

Basically, you need to create a github account if you donāt have one already, then link your github account to your unreal account. After you do that, and you respond to the confirmation email, youāll then be able to see the ark github page.

I think there is a bug in this new update, I made changes to stack size and spoiling times and cooked them, but for some reason the entire Island map is being cooked along with things I didnāt change at all, like I have folders labeled āEngineā next to āShooterGameā, as well as a folder named EFFECTS and MAPS when I didnāt touch either of those.
Not sure if this is an issue with the latest dev kit or not.
- Update to latest dev kit
- Make PrimalGameData_BP changes, add custom items, engrams, meshes, etc
- Cook without specifying a map name by selecting Total Converion
- Wait half a day to build
- The upload button in the dev kit is not enabled after building
- I go to mod output folder and see all my custom content
- Use steamcmd to upload to Steam
- Install mod using recommended server manager tool
The mod isnt listed as a total conversion as other mods in the workshop are. The server manager tool wouldnt allow me to select it even after making sure the mod was activated. I hardcoded the āTotalConversionā line into the launch script and it wonāt install saying āError installing mapā
What am I doing wrong?
Edit: Starting over I was able to get it to build and register as a TC mod after 12 hours but crashes immediately on the serverā¦ back to the drawing board
Updated to 201.5 fine, and I was able to move over some marketplace stuff fine. I fixed up the redirectors on the folder I moved over, and it just crashes when I try to load up the texture/material. Iām guessing itās because itās using some of the newer shaders in 4.7, though.
just wondering, how long is the delay between manual update and epic launcher update?
Ok, finally after updating to 201.5, cooking for 24 hours because of 500.000 shaders to compile. It finally workes. My Total Conversion works like it should. Thanks! (Any further build of this tc takes 3 hours ā¦ that is improveable ;P)
What are the specs on your machine that you were able to process the full 500,000 shader compile without it completely blowing up?

So, when exactly is the 201.5 version coming to epic launcher? Itās been a month and I donāt really want to manually download another 50 gb.
The cooking threw like 10 errors but it still worked ;D
