Just saw the Carflip VR demo, any chance that could be shared? Not the project files but the built demo
Looks like something that’d be really cool to try out.
We’re currently considering how to go wider with the Showdown demo. Our biggest concern is with the performance of the demo. We really tried to push the limits of what was possible on the screen, and thus designed the demo to completely max out the Nvidia Maxwell hardware that the demo was running on. Thus, our biggest concern is that people will try to run it on a lower-spec’ed machine, and have a bad experience.
Now, that being said, it doesn’t preclude the possibility of releasing it, we just need to be very conscious of the messaging and distribution surrounding it to make sure that people are very clear about the requirements to run the demo.
hey I’m sure many of us have capable systems (GTX780 o/c +) and think those with lower spec will understand (and it may encourage more upgrading of GPUs which VR needs anyway) so… another vote for release please! And we only need to hit 75fps on ours (DK2) instead of the 90 I assume you targeted for crescent bay!?
I held off from upgrading my 580, and now have the 980. Bring it on
But i do completely understand Nick, although many members have very high end hardware (780ti / 980). It is very difficult to have the right message when people may try the demo on a GTX 660… and the instant response is “unreal engine 4 is terrible engine for vr, and low end hardware because of performance”.
Thats one reason why i love the new changes in 4.5 (trying to help with targeting/hardware), cause i was often helping people with scalability settings, and constantly readdressing with new members (which is perfectly fine cause i love helping, but it clearly was in need of addressing ). Either way i hope epic can figure out a way of releasing it, while conveying it ultra high end nature.
That would be awesome, I think people would understand that it might have high system requirements if it doesn’t work well on their system.
Have you guys tested it on a 780 Ti at all? I’m curious to hear how it compares to the 980… many of the VR developers/enthusiasts have a 770 or 780 from what I’ve seen.
why nobody ask if they show that demo running in SLI configuration?
Because they already told us (elsewhere) the oculus connect UE4 demos were running on a single GTX980
…and is it ok to assume VR does not play well with SLI? I thought that was kind of the rule.
You are correct that it does not play well, for now. NVidia will be releasing a driver update “soon” that should re-do how SLI works for VR. Then, it should be great to have!
edit:
There is an API that will allow the GeForce Experience application rate the performance of the game. If the game rates below a certain threshold, then inform the user that the experience will be spotty at best until they upgrade their components.
When I was at OC, and had a peek at the rig the demo was running on (CB prototype broke when the staffer tried to put it on me, so I had a moment alone in the room with the gear whilst he got someone to come and help fix it) and it only looked like there was a single card running in the machine.
That being said, I was giddy with excitement, so maybe my memory isn’t brilliant.
