Ambient Occlusion

Hi.

When we do cinematics, the occlusion always cuts off at the edges of the screen.

Assume this is screen space AO at work.

Is there any way to avoid this?

The only method we can think of to avoid it is to set the field of view a bit larger, render out the cinematic and in ae/premiere, have the video a little bigger, so it comes out of the frame.

This means that the occlusion cutting off happens out of shot and there isn’t much difference in the area we want shown to the client

Yes, the best way to avoid it is to either not use screen space AO, or to crop in. There’s also screen space reflections that have similar issues at the edges, which I would also crop in for to avoid artifacts for cinematics.

You can try to use Distance field AO. This is worldspace and does not have screen edge artefacts.
