Alternative to Lumen

Why doesn’t Epic Games buy this technology and implement it in UE 5.6 as an additional way of global illumination  (But more optimized as said in the video) It would also be a cleaner way, not noisy lumens.

What do you think?

I learned a while ago about Enlighten. It looks like a solid alternative to Lumen and is also much more performant from what I could see.

TBH, I wanted Epic to go back to the Voxel Based GI. Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 and 2 are made on cry engine and they make good use of Voxel Based GI without destroying the performance of the game.

One more thing I would love to see would be Nvidia’s VXGI plugin being ported to UE5. I’m not a fan of Lumen, tbh. Unless you’re going for a super high end and realistic game, lumen is simply not worth it.

I hope Epic implements more techniques for in game lighting instead of removing older lighting features. This seems like it would make a good performance alternative to Lumen and I hope they would add something like this.

VXGI simply not working well in our test, sometimes it creates a lot of noise, light leaks, and, depending on the situation, can waste even more resources than lumen.

Its a shame this is behind a paywall. Would be neat if Unreal gave other options to light their scenes. Would also give developers aiming for different kind of hardware specs, other than just mobile, more reasons to go with Unreal rather than something like Unity or even Godot.
