Whenever I try to use a material I downloaded or installed from epic games launcher, I click on the object I want to apply it to, click on the material but what is loaded is the default grey and black box pattern and in the content browser, at the same time I try to load the material, it also changes into the default black and grey box pattern. I’ve tried this with different materials. The only material that doesn’t do this are the ones that came with the blueprint like “M_FGun” or something like that. Please can I have some help with this, I can’t use any material for anything. The problem is persistent on both 4.14.3 and 4.15 versions.
I think you should try to delete engine caches, which located in your user/app data folders.
It will start full shaders recompile process and maybe fix problem with materials.
Thanks for replying, I’ve been having this problem for days and I’ve asked it on 4 different sites all to no avail. Okay, so you’re saying to delete engine caches in AppData. There’s a lot of stuff with the word cache in them, there’s derived data cache, asset registry cache, can you maybe tell me what exactly to delete, I just want to make sure I don’'t screw things up further by deleting the wrong file
Also I found out more specifically that the engine unassigned textures (nodes without textures) whenever I tried to use the material. It shows up on the content browser with the right design, then I click on it or try to use it and the textures get unassigned, I tried to fix it by manually reassigning the textures to the material but whenever I restart the engine, the problem starts all over again
I just delete all unreal engine folders from local and roaming when have troubles with cache. Engine will recreate them.
If materials shown with unassigned textures, it may mean that there is no textures assets.
Maybe you deleted it somehow.
Then you need to reinstall engine.
The textures came with pack. Okay, i’ll try the cache then re-installing thank you
