Unreal engine 5.6. the same was in version 5.5. in material editor all nodes related to colour or textures are displayed in black. also when you first turn on the material in the preview is displayed incorrectly. as if the lighting does not work, but after switching to any preset viewport display improves, but still not quite correct. in places with shadows all looks too dark. is there a solution to this issue? did not find a search.
Right click on the textures in the content browser and choose ‘asset actions…’ → reload.
A lot of people have reported this problem over the last year or so. Here’s a recent one:
Enabling these features does not change anything
Not sure then, I’m afraid…
I have the same problem, but only in 5.6, did not happen in 5.5. All my projects are using substrate, at first I thought it was the conversion from 5.5 to 5.6 but then tested brand new project and same issue, Enabling Substrate causes MaterialGraph node previews to render black.
I’m surprised this was missed on this major release. I think I might just start reverting back out of substrate until its more mature, I’ve also discovered some other annoying issues with substrate, but I get it, its work in progress and use at your own risk.

What other issues did you discover, if you don’t mind me asking?
I haven’t fully tested this yet but when using a media player texture material for playing video sequences with transparent background, the transparent area would pickup something like a slight specular highlight. so it would be transparent but slightly brighter and ruin the transparency effect.
I could be doing something wrong but I followed documentation accurately, going to test this next.
This may or may not be related, but are you using substrate materials? because I had the ‘texture nodes being black’ issue too, but when I started a new project without enabling substrate, the issue seemed to be gone.
