Summary
On the v29.30 update some settings were adjusted on Epic’s side (Island Settings bug which enabled some things that weren’t supposed to be present), and an automatic IARC age rating update was applied to the Island. Because the new automatically applied age ratings exceeded the max ratings that Lego Islands allow, the island became unavailable to most regions.
An update to the Island was pushed to disable the stuff that wasn’t supposed to be in the game (from the Epic bug), and a request was submitted directly to the IARC for reviewing the age ratings. The American rating was deemed to have been “over restrictive” and the rating was adjusted from “Teen” to “E10+”.
However, the IARC was unable to review the Island in other regions as the Island was not visible. Here’s an example of the outcome for Europe: “No change as product is not available”. This is a bit of a Catch-22!
Retaking the IARC questionnaire did not update the displayed age ratings in the “Rating” section while publishing a new release of the project. It appeared the ratings from the questionnaire were applied for a short duration after a new release, but this is unclear.
The age ratings current appear to be correct on the live release but the Creator Portal is showing the previous automatically updated age ratings.
