Advanced RPG Combat Template - Forum Thread

Hello fellow developers!

We’re happy to annunce that our first product is avaiable on the marketplace from now on.

[SIZE=14px][COLOR=#212529][SIZE=14px]Advanced RPG Combat Template is a complete, networked RPG fight system template, inspired heavily by the legendary RPG masterpiece, Gothic.[/SIZE][/SIZE][/COLOR]

Skill System~ Three skill levels, beginner, intermediate, expert. Each level has it’s own anim montages, play rates, combos. Beginner fighters can only use one attack, while intermediate and expert fighters have almost Infinite combo variations.

Faction System~ Factions: Guards, Mercenaries, Templars. Each faction is hostile towards each other, but they won’t attack their own.

Different Attack Types~ There are 4 types of attacks - horizontal left, horizontal right, vertical (combo) attacks, and running attacks.

AI System~ 1 AI master actor with 3 Child classes (Templar, Guard, Mercenary) The AI has built in targeting, attacking, dodging, strafing, blocking functions.

Mixamo Supported~ you can easily retarget the animations to your own Mixamo skeletons. We’ll show you how in our future YouTube playlist.

Multiplayer Networked~ The project is networked properly, all clients see exactly the same as the server, and vice versa. Players can cause damage, and kill other players too.

Many More~ Blocking system, Block reactions, hit reactions, 5 death animations based on the character’s current skill level,

Due to a customer’s request, as our first quick update, we’ve added in new sound effects to the product, they are downloaded from freesound.org. We’ve included a ReadME file in the folder of the project for the download links of the sounds. precisely:

  • 2 Blood splatter effects on hit
  • 2 Sword Sheathe
  • 1 Sword Draw
  • 2 Sword Block
  • 2 Sword Swing

And finally, two background music, a chill ambient music, and a battle orchestra msuic. If the player is not in combat, the system will be playing the ambient music, and as soon as the player takes damage or blocks an attack, the battle music starts playing - stops when the weapon is steathed -

Note: We haven’t added in functions to increase / decrease the SFX volume, it’s and there’s a chance the sounds Will be too loud/soft. If you are tired of the background music, press TAB to disable it. - tab again to enable it again -

Because we promised that we’ll have a tutorial series about the product, I decided to start creating these videos. Since many people were interested in how to add horizontal attacks to the beginner skill level, I’ve decided to dedicate the first, short tutorial video to it.

Also, please note that this is my first video with voice recording, I tried to do my best, but I’m from Hungary and my accent is terrible, and my grammar isn’t always perfect. I apologize for it in advance. Who knows maybe I’ll get better on the way. In case you have any suggestions about how can I improve my voice in videos, I’m totally open to them.

The next video is almost ready, it shows you how to change the basic attack animation montages from the product to your own animations from different skeletons, and how to create new anim montages with the important AnimNotifies.

After a couple of takes I was finally able to create a new tutorial video, it’s about how to change the attacking animatonsa in the product. In this video, I used the sword animset pro animations from kubold, retargeted to the mannequin in the template.

The next video is going to be about how to change the equip/sheathe animations. It’s basically the same, but just a little bit different.

Hi, I’m interested in purchasing the product but I see that it hasn’t been updated for 4.22. Will you upgrade the Advanced RPG Combat Template for that version?

Since we’ve got a few requests from our customers about how to change the attacks to fire on mouse button press instead of holding down the left mouse button and pressing W A D, I’ve decided to dedicate the next tutorial video to this topic.

Can you add a life bar/mana bar for the future updates?

Left button click does nothing on current Downloadable Demo, (with or without any other keys pressed), there is no way to test attack.

Finn, The Life/Mana bar is already implemented, and Will be avaiable to you with the next update :slight_smile:
Zincr0, to attack you need to have a sword drawn. Press 1 on the keyboard to draw your sword then hold down the left mouse button, and press W. It should work properly.

Yea it works. You really need to add that to the text in the walls. Currently you see press E to change skills but there is no mention to draw sword.

For my Czech Language keyboard I need to change it to English to Draw Sword… Should be nice if you fix it too for all keyboards. But i can fix it myself anyway…

just bought this :frowning: ended up here… 2015 makes me think its over? great work but i cannot get it to work in UE4.22.3 any advice?

First of all, I would like to appologize to all the people who purchased the product. 10 months have passed by and there weren’t a single update, because my team, High Five, split up, and honestly, the project was in fact abandoned for some months. However, I picked up the product where we left off, and I’ve implemented almost every single update (Except the magic system, but I’m working on it too.) So officially, I’m back, and I Will finish what I’ve promised to the customers, because I owe this to you.

I would like to let everyone know that I’ve implemented the networked targeting System, one-handed, two handed sword System, Bow&Crossbow System updates into the product, along with most of the customer requested features such as: rolls and dodges, pickup/drop weapon System, improved block System with parrying, three different attack styles, critical hits, and so much more.

I would like to let you know that I’ve finished the very last update of the product, I’ve updated the showcase demo, so the magic System is implemented in it. I’ve sent the update files to Epic, and they are currently reviewing the product. This proccess usally doesn’t take long, so the new update should be avaiable for download in 1-2-3 days!

New Updates:

  • 2 New Weapon Types: Staff, Orbs (Staffs can be used as melee weapons too, the player can block, attack with them. Orbs can fire quick projectiles with RMB+LMB )
  • **3 Implemented Magic Types, easy to create your own **- Fire Frost General. (Each style needs it’s own weapon to function. E.G: Fire needs a fire orb. General skills can be used with fire and frost weapons.)
  • 3 Skill types: Target based, Placement, Area of Effect. (Target based skills deal damage to a single target, while AoE effects deal damage to everyone in the area.)
  • 2 Skill casting types: Dynamic, or Channeled. (dynamic skills can be used while moving, channeled skills need to be channeled for X amount of time before casting.)
  • **Ranged weapon skills: **Explosive arrows, freezing arrows, arrow barrage.
  • New Widgets: Action Bar, Skill Book, Skill Tree
  • Complete Mana System
  • Cooldown system
  • Plenty of new magic animations and anim montages

is it possible to make complex combos that mix different buttons and react with time? DMC Style

Just purchased, everything looks great but there are some issues with the teleporters in the demo level, but otherwise a great project! looking forward to learning more with it and maybe blending it with some of the abilities packs.
