a lot of out of video memory crashes on 5.6.0

its been happening to us a lot, on 3 different machines(with 3 different graphic cards(one of them is an RTX 4080). Before none of the machines had this issue. This has been happening since we moved to 5.6.0. (two of them the engine is compiled manually from source) and on another its still using vanilla ue5.6.0.

anyone else has encountered this? it doesnt really say why it crashes other than it ran out of video memory. (we cant also send the reports to epic)

i haven’t had this issue. here are some thoughts.

could you isolate if this happens with a template project?

is this windows or linux? are your drivers updated?
which technologies you use (lumen/nanite/vsm/etc).

thanks for replying

this is windows, latest nvidia drivers. this also happens with template projects, but rarer(since theres not many textures-im guessing).

We have raytrace on and lumen.(tho if memory doesnt fail me, we also tried turning it off but same thing happens).

no nanite.

VSM we turned on to see if it fixed the issue, but it didnt. So happens with it either on or off.

i see. it might well be that you don’t have enough memory. maybe 5.6 requires a bit more.

just in case vsm will use more vram.

i’d recommend to make sure about it.

you can also try adjusting the performance/quality/scalability

its important that you set sane values for all the configurations. the defaults are just a starting point. not only for scalability but for other systems (like lumen, vsm, etc). i think Chris murphy mentioned it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgsZGZ0csVQ

check the scalability here

though if your machines are not powerful enough, i’d consider upgrading the machines.

though it shouldn’t crash with 8gb on 5.6. i think there is something weird on your system.

you can try disabling animations and other stuff https://www.thewindowsclub.com/disable-visual-effects-windows

select “adjust for best performance” instead of custom.

also it’s important that you have nvidia studio, not game. as game is more unstable and causes issues.

when reinstalling the drivers search for the nvidia uninstaller online since nvidia drivers are known to not uninstall fully. (you can search in this forum it has been mentioned before).

you can also check if you have resbar for nvidia, not sure if that will help.

regarding RAM, 2 pcs have 64 gb, and the other one has 128.
