Hi!
I was working on a project yesterday and everything was going fine. Like an idiot I didn’t backup my changes and today when I open my project a bunch of my materials and material functions are no longer recognized in Unreal?!?! They show in file explorer but not in the engine’s content browser.
Is there anything I can do to recover them??
Thanks!
Hey there @HappyKat100 ! I’ve seen a couple cases of content drawer not recognizing the assets. Here’s a link to a thread with a possible fix:
Project opened as if it was a brand new, empty, fresh project. While all of the files still exist in the actual folder, Unreal doesn’t see a single one of them inside the editor. The project settings are “wiped”.
Before I get questions - no, I have not been copying files, migrating them project to project, or done anything else like it - everything is just simply gone.
What happened:
Worked on the project
Closed the project
Worked on some assets
Opened the project again
Everything is gone
If that fails, try and rename the uasset, and change it back during runtime. It will spit errors initially, but could return them sometimes.
@SupportiveEntity - Thanks for the tip. I tried this but didn’t seem to work for me.
For now I sadly just redid the work I lost. But will give this a go if it happens again (obviously I’m making regular backups too).
Thanks very much for the reply!
