[4.10] VR support in standalone from editor missing

We tend to use standalone in editor during testing on PC for our VR development due to performance advantage over VR Preview, the option has been excluded under 4.10, with a ‘Standalone game VR not supported, please use VR Preview.’ being pushed out to the log.

It would be great to have this option back, are there any plans to re-enable this in future drops?

I have noticed that I can re-enable this feature by commenting out lines that disable hmd in the source file Engine\Source\Editor\UnrealEd\Private\PlayLevel.cpp (~ line 1260), and doing this gives me the functionality for standalone, at least until I use vrpreview in editor, which is fine if that is all we want to use.

If its not possible to release the device when switching between preview and standalone to allow both to co-exist, might it be nicer to warn rather than exclude to at least offer the standalone option for people who would like to use it out in the wild?

I tested this in 4.10.1 and I was able to reproduce this issue on our end. I was able to use the VR mode in standalone as long as I have not used the VR preview. I have written up a report (UE-24264) and I have submitted it to the developers for further consideration. I will provide updates with any pertinent information as it becomes available. I checked on the issue link provided, and was wondering if this is still how the VR in standalone game works?

I am using a , and it works fine in the “new editor window” mode when playing, however, when I use the standalone game, even on a new instance of having UE4 up, the ALT+ENTER does not enable my HMD.

EDIT: I am using version 4.16.3

I reopened this as a new ticket and sent them the call stack. I’m on Linux and cannot launch a VR preview in the same session twice. Shame that this has been a bug since 4.1.
