2D Platformer Kit

Hey everyone. Just wanted to give you a heads up. The update has been submitted to EPIC and it contains bugfixes ( including the touch control ones ) and 2 new features : A basic XP system with the ability to decide how much xp do enemies give on death and customizable xp amounts required for each level. And also I have added audio SFX for various actions ( jump, hit, attack, dash, death, collect, etc).

Hi. I’m interested in buying your kit but I dont understand is it support android platform? Thank you.

Yes it does.

Thanks for this man. Im getting to work with it in the morning I just bought it a few hours ago and have been looking through it all. Pretty amazing stuff.

Thanks a lot! Hope you enjoy it.

Well all the features should work in a 3d environment as well except the animation system. It currently uses a 2D flipbook animation system and you would need to rewrite it to make it 3D. It’s not hard but it’s not a beginner level task either. If you already have a working character with animations and all you could easily take the things you need from my pack and add it there though. I am considering releasing a 3D version of the platforming kit but that is at least 2 months away. Hope i helped!

I was just curious if you know how long it generally takes Epic to approve updates, based on your previous experience. I’ve been eagerly awaiting this update and checking every day for the last 10 days but it doesn’t look like it’s available yet.

I dunno man. I got an email saying they did update it but when i checked it was still the old one and that was well over a week ago. I did send them an email about it but nothing yet. I am as puzzled about it as you do. Previous updates were much faster, only a few days.

I’m interested in using your kit to make a 3D platformer.

Will the 3D version be a separate purchase? If so, any discount for those who already own the 2D kit?

Yes it will be a separate version and regarding about the discount, I do like the idea but I have no idea if Epic has a system to support that in place. So I don’t know if it will be possible. But the kit is still ways off since I’m currently working on another one and only after this is released will i start on the 3D one.

Just purchased. I’ll pick up the 3D version when it comes out too.

Thanks man. Enjoy!

Well 3 weeks and still nothing. I emailed them again today but this is really annoying. I’m really losing faith in Epic with these and i’m considering having my future kits available on sites like sellfy exclusively because of the extremely slow response rate. I will be finishing and announcing another kit this weekend but i’m afraid to think how long it will take until it will be up on the marketplace. Probably not until late march at this rate and it’s a real bummer.

Ya that does suck but it’s out of your hands at this point. We appreciate the follow up.

Any hints at what the new kit will be, or would you rather wait until the official announcement?

For a possible new product I would like to suggest a tutorial, either print or video, that would take someone step-by-step through the who process of creating the 2d platforming kit. I would gladly purchase this in additional to the kit I already bought. It would be great for someone like me who is new to Unreal and has very limit knowledge or the time to dig in really deep on our own. That would be something you could easily host outside of Unreal but still benefit from promoting it within here. Just a suggestion.

Well i plan to announce it in a few days anyway but it will be the first part ( each part will be compatible and complement other parts but they will be usable separately as well) of a very complex and very customizable RPG kit inspired by both Dungeons and Dragons and games like The Elder Scrolls. I will be integrating some of the functionality in updates for the 2d platforming kit as well , but not the very complex features though. The idea of the kit is to be able to rpg-ify any game you have regardless if it’s a 2D platformer or first person shooter or 3rd person action.

Regarding the tutorials , the problem is that i’m working on these projects in my spare time and I don’t have a schedule i can stick to and sometimes i work even as little as 15-20 minutes just to get a small thing in and in order to do a tutorial series you need some discipline and a schedule to do your content. I’m not excluding that in the future but if you really want I can give you a list of the tutorials i’ve followed when starting out with Unreal. Before late may 2015 i never even touched unreal and the 2d kit was my first project that wasn’t part of a tutorial so it’s not very hard to get a hang of blueprints if you get a solid introduction to them at first.

I can completely relate with the lack of time and I’m inspired by what you’ve managed to accomplish so far. The RPG kit sounds very interesting.

Yes, the list of tutorials would be much appreciated.

Please do! Tell us about the tutorials you used to learn the ropes of the engine and whatnot. I’m quite new to the engine yet, barely started to check how it works a few months ago, enough to make a very VERY basic 2D platformer. I purchased your 2D pack (Only thing I purchased at the marketplace so far) to study it and learn how to manipulate the engine at a faster rate since it’s a very good tutorial besides an excellent base for a game.

EDIT: 2 days or so in order for a mod to authorize a post. That sounds like a joke or something…

Suggestion:

Start menu: Save/Load + save points
Grappling hook
Different types of damage depending on armor/weapon: (example: Armor with high fire resist takes less damage from fire sources).

Well no response. I’ve contacted directly. I don’t know if it will help but that’s all i can do for now. Really sorry for the long wait but this is just getting stupid. And I have been busy these days but i will post the tutorials this weekend.

Epic just told me the pack is updated for a while now and it seems updated from my end so the fixes should be there.
