2019 Summer #ue4jam | August 8-13 | Theme: Make it count

According to the official rules of this jam under: Box
Marketplace assets will be scored.

Since post#13 from staff claims otherwise, we require some reconfirmation.

Yeah, it says in the rules: “Sourced (non-original) assets will not be reviewed and scored”. That does seem pretty clear but clarification from staff is still needed.

Just to report an issue in the description: “a featured playthrough on the June 13th live stream”.

You should reread my quotation. It specifically says that all sourced assets aside from marketplace assets will not be reviewed and scored.

I know what you said, I was just quoting the rules. However I went back a reread the entire rules and does this look like a contradiction to anyone else?
“Submission may
include sourced (non-original) assets, provided that (i) all sourced (non-original) assets must be
noted, and (ii) unless such sourced (non-original) assets are from the Unreal Engine Marketplace
(“Marketplace Sourced Assets”), such assets will not be reviewed or scored.
Submission must not include assets created prior to the Contest Period (outside of noted sourced
assets).”

and

“Sourced (non-original) assets will not be reviewed and scored.”
This quotation is from the judging section of the rules, not sure if that makes any difference.

Ah okay, sorry for the confusion. And yes, that is a contradiction. My guess is that someone copy pasted the jam rules from last jam, put the latter line in there and didn’t see the part that specifically says that marketplace assets will be scored. It’s safe to say that they won’t be scored going from staff post + additional rule, but I’d hope for reconfirmation still. It would be sad for teams to be disqualified just because they, like me, searched the rules for the term ‘Marketplace’ and wrongfully think they have permission to properly use those assets.

Sorry, my fault for not making my first comment clearer. Yeah, that would make sense, they did change the rules for the last game jam.

Does a sourced asset from the marketplace become original if it is modified enough ? Do all original assets must me made from scratch during the jam ?

Hello. what the theme is?

Hey I got a question: In the jam rules, it is specified that the end date is on August 13th, but says that it ends on August 12th., so when does it ends? Hope I’m not getting the time zones wrong.

Hello.
What amount of pre-jam materials could be used? For example, we have a protoype of hyper-casual game for android. Can we use it, add new content and stuff, or whole project (except models) should be from scratch?

Has anyone had success with the Soundly promo code? It says it is pUE4JAM, but it says promo code is invalid. I’ve tried PUE4JAM and UE4JAM and those don’t work either.

Contest started but no theme posted yet?

It’s August 13, we had a little mishap with different versions of the page and it should display correctly now.

I had a couple of questions about two of the rules.

  • The game must include custom gameplay that exceeds the gameplay found in Epic Games’ starter templates.

Do you mean it can’t literally be just a starter template? Or do you mean it must be ‘better’ than what’s in the starter kit?
If the latter, how is that not completely subjective and just a matter of opinion?

  • All art assets in the game must have a material other than the default applied to it.

Why? If I want just a white texture or whatever for something and I save time by using that why would that be a problem? What is the point of that rule?

If the point of these rules is some way of trying to say ‘if your project sucks, it cant compete for prizes’ - also what is the point of that? :stuck_out_tongue: I mean the nature of competition already disqualify projects that suck from competing for prizes doesn’t it?

They seem to me like very arbitrary rules that mainly serve to potentially disqualify somebody on some technicality. Maybe I’m missing something.

Oh yeah, also, I was trying to figure out what the theme was for ages and didn’t find out until I went on here.

I do realize you have a huge picture that says says ‘Make It Count’ in big bold letters right on the page and it could just be me being retarded but it doesn’t actually state anywhere that that’s the theme.

It’s an image below a promotional image, that looks like a promotional image… I presumed being like ‘Alright, jammers - Make it count!’ or something.

Anyways point is maybe put like ‘The Theme Is: Make It Count’, on the page. Because there is a lot of clutter on there as well…

###SWEEPSTAKEZ INTEL PARTNER - @RazerEXTREMEHeadshotTACTICALpErFoRmAnZe!

I could use one of those super awesome curved chairs though for when I’m taking sharp a 35 degree turn at 100mp/h as I’m waiting for the PUBG matchmaking.

Ok, I’m stuck for an idea for this one. I’m a decent blueprint-er and can wear a few hats. Anyone out there with an idea/mechanic ready to go and needing some extra dev firepower? Please pm me.

Does anyone know where I can get free character models?

The Launcher Marketplace has a whole bunch of Paragon and Infinity Blade characters, there’s also Mixamo.com

[FONT=“Helvetica”]I have a question.
[FONT=“Helvetica”]In the rules it says: “Submissions should not feature any trademarks (including logos), except the Unreal Engine logo as described by our Branding Guidelines: Unreal Engine Branding Guidelines and Trademark Usage - Unreal Engine

Can we use our own logos (website, company etc.) and since these are made before the jam do, they subtract points?
