I think we are talking about different “assets flipping”.
To me it sounds like you are condoning devs who use assets from Epic/Marketplace as-is to make their games. I call it BS. That’s what Marketplace is for and that’s why Epic releases assets - get it and make your game with it. Sure, if you have all the time in the world and that kind of attitude - learn from the best and make everything from scratch. Release on Steam and experience commercial failure (because that’s a fact - most indies don’t recoup dev costs). Then scratch your head asking yourself what did you do wrong.
Not using this opportunity to make a game using Paragon’s assets, as-is, is a blasphemy IMO.
Correct, that is Epic’s intent. If they can not make somthing successful with Paragon, release it to the community where you have not only help decrease production time of the games created with UE4 but decrease the time waiting for the royalties due for each game that is released that IS successful. Epics business model is not only poor dev friendly but also complete genius!
May I ask the Staff and admin of Epic a question?
Now that you release the Assets of Paragon. Is it okay for us Paragon fans to revive the project? I’m not the only thinking about this. But every since Epic announces Paragon. A lot of us was exciting to finally have something. That can rival Overwatch. Sure there was Battleborn and Lawbreakers. But those games didn’t have characters that were appealing. Not like Paragon and epically Overwatch. So when epic was considering shutting down Paragon in favor of Fortnite. I was disappointing. But now that the assets are being released for free. I have to ask. Is it okay for the unreal community to revive Paragon as a Moba?
There is nothing wrong with taking a marketplace asset and tailoring it to your own project’s needs and there is nothing wrong with using them as-is. That’s the point of the marketplace assets, but you’re still missing the point… I’m talking about market place asset flipping where people constantly steal other people’s work and release them as their own (I’m not naming them, but some of the more popular names on the market do a lot of this). Times like when some nobody will put something free on the market, then some well known person will take that free asset, tweak it around enough to circumvent the reviewing process, and sell that asset for money now.
If you make some fancy AAA quality shader and release it for free, it should stay free and people shouldn’t be able to find round-about ways to monetize it. Instead, you have asset flippers, like predators, that take that material shader, rearrange/rename things around to make it look like it’s theirs, change a few settings to make it less obvious, swap out a few textures(usually with textures they didn’t make), make a few presets, and then they release it as something like “Super totally amazing awesome skin shaders volume III.” Oh and again, don’t forget the typical Daz3d female character for the marketplace pictures. So they took something that was once free, messed around with a few things and then asset flip it to make money. Without the base shader, it would likely be something that few would care for.
Any chance we will see some GameplayAbilitySystem related assets? Would love to see how you guys implemented GameplayAbility blueprints, GameplayEffects, and GameplayCues!
I am having the same problem. Why is this happening? Without exporting the skeletal mesh asset use is limited cause you also can’t use the standard epic skeleton on the skeletal meshes as they have a different skeleton obviously. And the meshes are with the guns already. Can anyone give a tips how to make the export work?
Thank you for the great assets! Is anyone else having some trouble Building the lightning for the ParagonSample map? Its at 0% for 30 minutes now. Should i just wait it through?
Yes, all these showcases of extreme optimisation, breath-taking shader and texturing techniques are useless because they don’t use the UE4 dummy skeleton.
