Seriously, even the workflow is much better with tessellation. Countless times better. But not only do we have a worse workflow, it doesn’t work at all.
Yes, I realize it’s a preview. But I’m pretty sure there’s a good chance if we don’t talk about it, that it would remain broken in the official release.
I had originally hoped tessellation would come back, but that seems unlikely, so i’ll settle with an alternative that just works for once. This obviously ignores some use cases of tessellation where VHM doesn’t work at all for.
Zero discussion about it too. You don’t tell us what your alternative or plans will be, just straight up delete it from the engine.
Where is VHFMesh broken? I read about some glitches, but thankfully my VHFMesh created in EA 2 is still working fine.
Tessellation takes a lot of performance, I think in combination with Nanite and Lumen it would be too much. But yes, the workflow was nice with tessellation. I hope they improve workflows for VHFMesh or similar techniques.
A work around for VHF Mesh, with World height removed. I used my Specular inputs for my Height map, and just plug that into your world height on the RVT output node. works just like before. a bit hacky but it should work until they release another pipeline for VFH landscape.
