Documentation states that the build process should take between 15 and 40 mins depending on system specs. I’ve waited for several hours with no progress. Xcode just hangs. Has anyone seen similar issues?
Can you share your system specs?
Sure. Here they are:
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 4000 1024 MB
Software: OS X 10.9.2 (13C64)
I’m afraid I don’t have any idea what can be wrong. The slowest Mac I tried to build UE4 on was a Core 2 Duo ~1.8 GHz Mac Mini with 4 GB RAM, iirc, and while it took over an hour, it did complete.
Did you try stopping the build and starting it again? Xcode should continue building, not starting from scratch. Also, please note that Xcode has a limit of 200 lines of output from a build tool, so after 200 lines it may appear as if it doesn’t do anything, while it’s still compiling.
You could also check Activity Monitor and see how many Clang processes are running, are any of them frozen, etc.
MichaelT,
I’m sure you have more important fires to put out. It appears that the Oculus Rift is only supported on Windows at this time. That being the case, I will change my development environment from a Mac.
Thank you for attempting to address the compile issue. Perhaps we can revisit in a few weeks.
Yes, sadly, it’s Windows only at the moment. This should change soon, but yeah, we can’t do everything at once Many thanks for understanding.
