Writing an Textbook on Unreal Engine 4

Hello everyone,

At our University, we have been using Unreal Technology for a number of years in the Digital Gaming and Simulation program.

I have been working on putting a textbook together for unreal 4. I would like to know if anyone can direct me to the appropriate entity, within Epic or the Unreal team to obtain appropriate permissions for using the unreal engine and contents as a part of this textbook.

Thank you,

You don’t have to do anything, you can even sell the book without having to pay royalty.

How long is the text book and what does it cover?

I am curious

Have you read the FAQ? There is a section here that covers educational use, including writing books.. TheEULA is here. If you need further help, try the custom licensing webform here.

We hope for it being released early 2015. It will be in three parts, part 1 will be basic ins and outs of the engine/editor. Part 2 will be level design with the UE4 features covering intermediate/advanced materials, blueprints, physics and animation and ends with cascade and particle effects. Part 3 will walk you through building a game by putting the contents learned in parts 1 and 2 together and ends with making it into a multiplayer, networked game.

Thanks for the quick reply. I did read through the EULA and the FAQ on educational use, etc. The publisher has certain permission forms to use screenshots of the engine, and since there are a lot of content and features already in the engine which I would like to cover in the book, we need to get permissions to use. I tried but couldn’t find any entry for getting permissions to use screen shots of the engine, however, I did send a custom license request.

Thanks again.
