I’ve been doing a lot of retargetting work and despite the fact that in most animations and the default skeleton things look alright, when I try to apply certain animations (for example this holding rifle animation) to my model the left wrist wraps in on itself.
Any idea how to fix this? I’ve read it might be due to weight painting, but I’ve tried weight painting the bones and I’m not having any luck. The rig is pretty simple and everything else has gone swimmingly up until this point (save for a scaling issue which I already corrected.)
Hey! Sorry if this is a bit late for you, but I have some tips that may help with your problem.
The obvious way to fix it is to try to fiddle around with your bone transforms and your retargeting.
Another method which Epic uses is a post process animation. You can find an example of one in the third person template (called “ABP_Manny_PostProcess”).
Since your mesh doesn’t use the default UE skeleton though, it won’t work out of the box, and you’ll likely have to use it as a reference to create your own.
You can assign it to your skeleton from the “Asset Details” panel of your skeleton asset.
