I was wondering if there was a clearly defined set of rules for the current modding contest anywhere? Anything I’ve seen has said near to nothing about actual rules of the entries except the different categories you can submit under. I am most curious about the rules on bringing models and assets from outside sources such as the UE4 marketplace or other 3d repositories and using them as “your work” in your mod just because you change the coding or how it behaves, even though the mesh is someone else creation? And how does this relate to using the meshes already in the Ark resources?
Good question!
90% of what I’ve done is actually from the unreal marketplace cause I’m simply not artistic enough to make most of the stuff myself.
I DO know that if you use anything from the marketplace in your mod that you cannot work with anyone else on your mod or you’ll break the EULA agreement.
(nobody else can have access to edit any of the marketplace assets)
Even if it isn’t against the ‘rules’ I’m sure it will be taken into consideration due to ‘originality’ and such.
What if the other person also purchases the assets from the marketplace?
Seems like the team putting on these competitions would save themselves more trouble in the long run by just laying out a clear set of rules that is easily found.
i personally think if you haven’t updated your mod (or even touched anything, had a voice in the community, shown your face, dumped your mod/map the day after winning, etc.) since the last competition, you should not get to update once to re-enter.
Is it a requirement to have a single update? I agree with you it should be an active and growing effort to build your mod to be eligible. Not a one time post and call it good, or simply reentry from last time.
And i think if you were in the first one, and won, you should not be able to be running this time.
I think that was actually a rule in one of the previous ones. Like i said they just need to actually layout some rules for us to follow.
oh nice, that would be ideal.
If you entered, or even placed or won, in the first competition you are eligible to submit mods(plural) to this one. Updating is allowed.
This information has already been posted.

We understand that that information was posted. We think updates should be mandatory since the last compitition and that there needs to be more defined rules
If there are no rules mentioned there are no limitations by definition. So assume you CAN do. Don’t think too much about what you CAN’T do.
And why are you so concerned about what others do and if they enter again? It does not matter how awesome their content is rather than how more awesome yours is.
I think the concern is that, for example, Valhalla hasnt been touched since November (don’t give me **** about the JAN 7th update, it was to add snow, lulz) and they even removed the map from the Workshop. They didnt respond to messages, they didnt touch the map the day they won 2nd place, they walked away and didnt care. New contest, suddenly they are working their ■■■■■ off to “update” the **** they laid upon us. They won 2nd place with a map that was 60% done, great, but they never once updated it after they won. Not even a comment in the section. This, this was the norm for mods. Should Survival+ get to win first place again after not being updated since October as well? Its nothing against these guys, but when you dont care enough to put the effort into making your mods work, then, dont enter, dont bother. The last comp broke the modding community. This will will do further dmg if ppl are allowed to make a change, upload, re-enter. Thats BS. Any competition ever states that if you already won, bye, thanks for playing.
After the last one, ppl dropped the ball, and, their projects to walk away grumpy. Fine. But dont bring your wack *** dead projects “back to life” simply to win some money. Valhalla? Watch. They will do it again. Place top 3, finger in the air and walk away from the community laughing.
Along the lines of what is saying, the competition is meant to bring the modding community to life in what they can create with ARK … not what they can bring in from another place just to claim money and discourage those building from ark or from scratch. It shouldnt be a hit it and quit it thing, not that you can enforce constant progress as much of it is behind the scenes even with scratch made projects. But the point is they should be highly discouraging people (by making it not allowed) to use outside sources as their mod content. It should be built by the ark dev kit for the ark users. Recycled work is easy to use and I’ve even considered using it to save time. But thats not what these contests are about. I could care less what anyone else does honestly, I just think it would bring many more good quality and lasting mods to life if there were certain rules in place.
