World Systems Designer Looking to Support Unreal Indie Teams

Creative Director / World Systems Designer Looking to Connect with Unreal Developers

Hello everyone,

My name is Richard Kaufman. I’m a former United States Marine, lifelong player, and independent creative/world systems designer currently building a portfolio of original game concepts, world bibles, pitch documents, and playable-system ideas.

I’m looking to connect with Unreal developers, technical artists, designers, or small indie teams who may need help with the creative side of game development.

To be clear: I am not here to say, “I have an idea, please build it for me.”

What I’m offering is creative development support, including:

  • worldbuilding and lore bibles

  • game concept development

  • faction and civilization design

  • character and creature design direction

  • progression systems and player fantasy

  • pitch documents and concept organization

  • narrative structure and thematic direction

  • prototype scope protection

  • helping turn scattered ideas into a coherent game identity

My main strength is building worlds where the theme, mechanics, player fantasy, progression, and long-term expansion path all connect.

Some of my current concepts include:

  • Shine — a persistent dark fantasy survival/MMO-style world where players rebuild civilization and permanently leave their mark on history.

  • Afterlight — a sci-fi extraction/transformation game where human salvagers enter a moon-sized alien Engine, become the Sparks of customizable living starship bodies, and enter a war against parasitic shell-takers.

  • Cain/Kane — a grounded action narrative about the first murderer, still alive after thousands of years, facing guilt, violence, faith, and possible redemption.

  • Damage Control — a superhero-adjacent game about collateral damage, rescue, evacuation, rebuilding, and the consequences of godlike violence.

  • Unbound — a Lilith story centered on exile, freedom, autonomy, and what it costs to become the first unbound.

I have a short concept portfolio PDF available for anyone interested in seeing the kind of work I’m developing.

I’m especially interested in connecting with people who are technically skilled but may want creative direction, world structure, pitch help, lore support, or someone who can help give a project a stronger identity and long-term shape.

I’m open to conversation, collaboration, portfolio review, and possibly joining the right small team if the fit makes sense.

Thanks for reading.
