Hello, Im new to all of this stuff so i would like to ask everyone for some advice on World Bordering. I have a island terrain surrounded by water.I would like to know some tips or tricks to Bordering a world. Without having the area surrounded by mountains to keep the player where you want them. Any help would be appreciated. How do you guys keep players where you want them.?
I use several ways:
- mountains
- cliffs
- river
- sea
- lake
- walls (e.g in my case a enemy base with palisades)
- strong enemies that are blocking a way through a e.g small canyon
- blocking volumes (not recommended)
- valleys
For the sea, blocking volume, far from the coast, is the obvious choice. You could always script a shark attack, though, then have it fought off by a bottle-nosed dolphin, who swims you back to shore, sings you a song, and swims back out to sea to the applause of all the nearby crabs*.
*Basically, you can let your imagination run wild. You have complete control, remember.
Haha that was a creative way.
Why are blocking volumes not recommended?
Because it is not realistic when the player just walks into an invisible wall
