Workstation Recomendation

Hello. We want to buy the product and we are wondering if the following WS make sense with RC and around the budget of 10k.

=============================================================================

1 x AMD 2990wx clocked to 4.1 GHZ.

3 x QUADRO P5000

1 970 EVO PRO 1TB

128GB RAM

The rest of the parts follow a logic of supporting this setup, We are using Win10.

============================================================================

The project is photogrammetry of 30 Monuments with Leica P40 and drone in 2.5 years.

Should we add? Should substract parts?  Should we go to a different direction with that budget?

Thank you.

I don’t know how the P5000 compete with the gamer market GFX1080 ti (which are good choices for RC).I would definitely add much more storage… You never have enough with RC (the cache fills up very quickly)… Take at least 3x2TB SSD. Put the cache on one of them and the projects on the others. 128GB RAM sounds like something reasonable.

Thank you Jonathan. We are going for an EVO PRO NVME 2 TB as you suggested. Addition SSDs will be put, as well as a NAS 14TB for backup for all the workstations in the office.

What troubles me is the 3-way graphics Cards. Maybe some input from admins and other users could be very helpful.

Hi Thanasis,

have you not looked at the specific threads yet?

Bottom line is Gamer Cards like Jonathan suggested. 2 is ok, the thirds adds only very little.

I would use 4 SSDs since then you can get one for OS, cache, source files and project files.

Maybe RTX 2080Ti? It should be cheaper than P6000, but much more CUDA cores…

How many photos are we talking about in single RC project?

You should consider a CPU with a lot of threads.  90% of the processing time is on the CPU, you could use one quadro and use the rest of the budget on a great CPU.
