New trailer for Toxic just went up.
So, what’s the story?
A generation ago, the world was bathed in a chemical rain that burned away the cities, choked the oceans, and awakened something unnatural deep in the earth. Civilization crumbled in months. What remains is the Deadlands — a sprawling desert filled with radioactive storms, deranged warlords, mutated humans and monstrous alien creatures.
As one drifting through the Deadlands, whether you seek answers, or not, you’ll need to fight through blood-soaked ruins of cities once been, forge uneasy alliances, and uncover the truth behind the goo, a green jelly-like substance which has been all but replaced the natural waters of the planet. It kind of tastes like watermelon actually.
Embrace the goo, weaponize it, or push it aside. The goo is here to stay, but are you?
So, what makes Toxic different other than the graphics?
Customizations: Players fully customize the way they want their player to look at the beginning. Make it look exactly as you want from the start. What does this means for armor then, you may wonder. Well, armor is added on to the character you created as extra pieces to attach to the current design, instead of changing your design.
Vehicle Carnage: You all know the boring mounts you get in MMOs and ARPGs are just for looks, and usually just boring. Well, not in Toxic. You get monstrous vehicles of absolute carnage. Drive over zombies and enemies all you want, add new pieces of armor to it, and have fun with racing, and destruction. So, why not just drive everywhere? Gas! You need to keep your mount, ahem, vehicle going somehow! Run out of gas, and your vehicle is stuck there until you get more.
Open World[1]: Unlike most typical ARPGs, Toxic features more of an open world concept, allowing players to move a large overworld map, and only a few loading areas for “instanced” versions of areas.
Mini-Games: Yes, Toxic will have special arcade mini-games you can play with tokens. Special mini-games are designed and placed around the world as secrets to find, often supplying rewards to those who complete the game.
Kickstarter Exclusives[2]: Special rewards are given to kickstarter supporters, of specific tiers, such as special classes, more choices in customization, name being in the game as NPCs and even having a role to play in the design of the Mini-games.
Classes and Weapons: Each class is unique, offering special kinds of gameplay, weapon usage and armor usage, which is an ever growing list of hundreds of each kind! And of course, more Kickstarter Exclusives.
Toxic is slowly evolving, and as such, expect a LOT more changes both in visuals to update them and refine the comic look, and in gameplay mechanics! More enemies, monsters, creatures, and big, ugly … Things… to come! Make sure to follow us on Kickstarter, Steam and join our Discord server for more information, and to be a part of the process!
Let’s show some pics for those of you not wanting to watch the video:
Open World refers to the overworld being a larger area which can be moved around in freely, with very minimal restrictions. Some loading zones will be required and even some areas be considered a separate map instance. This process may change over time as the game progresses in development.
