Hey everyone! I have this map progress posted on the Steam forums, but since we are moving over here, I figured I would post this here as well to get your opinions and ideas.
Abandoned Shores (Working Title)
Abandoned Shores is a map set on a number of islands with a map size ever so slightly larger than the current official map. The premise of the map is that there was a large civilization living across the islands. The whereabouts of them now is unknown, but the ruins of their civilization provide players great locations to build up a base and survive. If you have a keen eye and a talent for exploration, you may come across some very hidden secrets to which I’m hoping to add a few little mechanics to that will reveal a bit more of the previous inhabitants of the island.
I’m currently working section by section, specifically, square by square on the map, so the rest of the map in the background will either be completely flat, untextured landscape or very weirdly shaped. I want to make sure each section of the map has as much detail as possible, I’ll be graduating with a Games Design Degree come November, so I want to make sure I can get some content made for my portfolio. Got to make sure the end product looks good and hopefully, with your input, plays well too!
Progress

Ruins
The ruins at the moment are VERY early on in their development. I’ve only spent about an hour so far learning what assets I have to play with, how they work together and generally learning how they could effect gameplay. These ruins may change drastically as a result!


The ideas behind the ruins that will be spread across the map will vary. Some will provide an easy defense but little to no way to protect your dinosaurs, other than you building a pen for them outside of the ruins somewhere. Others will be built around open communities, scattered ruins with no perimeter walls at all, but certainly enough room to fit your dinos! I’m hoping that the ruins will allow players to set up their bases a bit more comfortably and provide great attack/defend gameplay on PvP servers. As for PvE servers, I would also hope that the ruins with more buildings could provide players a lovely base for a community effort.
Hidden Content
Although it seems counter productive to show images of “Hidden Content”, I would like to make these images an exception so that I could get ideas and feedback on them as well. I stated previously that there may be a few hidden areas on the map which could link to an additional mechanic. Nothing too major, but if possible, I would like these secrets to ultimately grant access to something bigger and better if all of them are found. However, I want players to feel really unsettled when finding them, as they do have some relation to the previous civilization. I messed around with a few little things and came up with this area with a lovely green tint and a very unnerving ambient noise.
I’m not entirely sure what people would think when entering that area, but I do hope they would feel a little bit worried at least!
Those are all of the preview images I have at present! If you have any more ideas or have some feedback, please let me know! I ultimately want to create a map that you can play, so it seems best to listen to your ideas and hopefully be able to implement something you want.
