Hi, there’s something wrong in window handling in 4.4.1 in OS X.
I haven’t exactly found why, but sometimes all new windows (e.g. preferences, assets and even popup when baking lights and alerts) are placed behind main one instead of in front of, and even worse, front window can’t get any input because focus is set to window behind. In these cases, only workaround is to kill UE4 editor or switch it to full screen, and then change desktop with CTRL + arrow left or right (if you have more than 1 desktop configured)
problem is eased if main window is not maximixed, because in this case you can actually click on new window even if partially behind main one.
Resetting layout solves problem (but only for a while, problem tends to return)
I’ll try to find exact steps to reproduce problem, in meantime I just wanted to share this to check if it is somehow a known issue.
Macbook pro mid 2012 15 inch (OSX 10.9.4) Processor 2,6 GHz Intel Core i7 Memory 8 GB 1600 MHz DDR3 Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
By way, minimizing main window (yellow button in window bar) shows another empty (striped) UE4. Is this normal?
When this situation arises, clicking for example on a material doesn’t bring forward window behind, nor it works clicking on name of window in bottom part of window menu, nor clicking on “Bring All To Front”
Ok, here are steps:
-
Open a project: If you minimize window (yellow button) there’s no other striped window behind, and if open an asset new window appears regularly in front of main window
-
Unmaximize project window dragging it from tab with project name. A new striped window appears behind and project window is smaller in front of it. Maximize it with green button: now if you minimize window (yellow button) there’s still striped window behind, but if you open an asset new window still appears regularly in front of main window.
-
Quit UE4 Editor
-
Reopen project
-
Now if you open an asset new window appears behind main window
-
Select Window->Reset Layout or any action that causes an interactive popup to appear: it appears behind main window, and even worse, main window doesn’t receive any input anymore. To access popup you have to switch fullscreen and move to another desktop.
Please let me know if you need more details, and if you can reproduce problem. Thanks!
Hey ,
Thanks for thorough investigation! I was able to duplicate this issue and have entered a bug report into our database (TTP# 346212). I can confirm that this issue still occurs in 4.4.2 as well. I will let you know when I see a fix for this. For now, you might need to avoid removing Level Editor tab from Tab Bar if possible. Thanks again!
Just a quick update: it looks like this is fixed in 4.5, as it will no longer be possible to undock level editor tab out of tab bar. Thanks again for your help!
