Will there be any options for free educational licenses?

RealityCapture is currently the best photogrammetry software in the industry, but its high price make it impossible for many college and university students (who usually aren’t independently wealthy) to use it.

I propose that your company provide a free educational license option for students. Similar educational licenses are already provided for other competing photogrammetry software, including Agisoft Photoscan and Autodesk ReCap. If students are given the opportunity to use and appreciate RealityCapture during their academic careers, then they are much more likely to purchase RealityCapture when they graduate. This would be a great marketing opportunity for your company.

I’m sure this option has already been discussed and considered, but I’m wondering if it will ever happen. And if it will, I’m wondering what sort of time frame it would occur in (months, years, etc.). Thank you for your time.

Hello Joseph Key,

thank you for your proposal. This topic has been discussed, but we cannot give you any guarantees or deadlines. For now, for this purpose we provide a Demo version, which is time-unlimited and gratis.

Yes, I have tried the Demo version. Since it lack the ability to export 3D models, however, it is not possible to test RealityCapture in a full workflow (such as converting 3D scans to PBR game materials). Would it be possible to add an export feature but limit the maximum number of photos used (a seemingly good compromise)?

Note: This message is to Zuzana; I wasn’t sure how to reply to your message directly.

hello, to indicate that a message is intended to be for a specific person, the @ sign is usually used in front of the name, for example @Zuzana Ďuríčková

I would like to echo Joseph’s request. My school would also like to start a photogrammetry class using your application but the price is prohibitive. I recognize a need to make a living however  Perhaps something in-line with your competition at Agisoft. Happy to discuss in more detail.

Best,

Ken

We ( The university of Potsdam- Germany and the Wissenschaftsladen-Potsdam) would like to use RealityCapture as showcase for our Students …we are surprised that there is no discounted education license for students pursuing a research or educational approach. A demo version without export is simply not enough to test your software in a workflow.

Especially I think that the team of capturingreality could benefit from research results, if you were interested in working together.

At the moment we are thinking about buying 10 such licenses from Agisoft because you do not offer a good alternative

I would be happy to hear from you.

Best Frieder

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your feedback. We understand there is a demand for education licenses and we are eager to support the use of RealityCapture in university projects. For that reason, we have decided to launch very interesting model for students, institutions and non-commercial projects. It will be launched very soon publicly (matter of few weeks). Until that time, we are happy to discuss individual demands for licenses directly. If you are interested, feel free to contact us via contact form on our webpage.

Hi @Zuzana Ďuríčková,

Was the educational model launched? I can’t find any information about it on the website.

Thanks!

Hello David,

the new pricing models were not released yet. I will contact you via email in order to discuss your needs individually.

Hi ! If possible, please send me an email about this as well.

Thanks!
Chris

Hello - I’d also be interested in any information about educational licenses; I and several fellow graduate students use photogrammetry for research, and have so far been relying on Photoscan. This seems like a better option, and we’d be interested to try it out if the cost were a bit less prohibitive.

Thanks!

Kelly

Hello Kelly and Chris,

we will contact you directly via email in order to discuss your needs.

I am assistant prof. at the department of “Interior Architecture” and “Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art” (University of West Attica - Greece). We would like to use RealityCapture as showcase for both departments students. Within the same direction for us, as members of research laboratories it will be very supportive to use your unique solution for research issues. Please inform us for any possibility for educational licenses.

Best regards

Likewise I am a geometry teacher and (sometimes) academic adviser to one of our district’s robotics teams and I am interested in an educational license for RealityCapture as well. Thank you for your consideration.

Hello Robert,

please send us a message via our contact form: https://www.capturingreality.com/Contact

@Zuzana Ďuríčková Have there been any definite plans to add an educational license? Many others have echoed my request, but so far I haven’t seen any change yet.

Hello Joseph, please contact our team via Contact Form with your specific request. We do respond on individual bases. Thank you.

Hello, After reading this thread several months ago, I contacted the company using the contact method on your website. I subsequently got the university to purchase a regular 3 month license. We are doing a research project with students and faculty and are unable to complete it with the license due to the 2,500 photo limitation, and any of the licenses with higher photo limits are cost prohibitive for my university to purchase. I guess I will have to teach my students other photogrammetry  software due to the lack of support, unless you are able to provide a reasonable solution. Considering this is one of the best software solutions for photogrammetry it would be a real shame if all of my students year after year became familiar with other software packages an not yours.

If you are able to help us please respond to my request or email me steenblikrs@gmail.com

Thank you very much,

@RS Steenblik
