I am very interested in using the Paragon assets that Epic Games made available on the marketplace recently. But I am stuck using UE4.17 because my various plugins do not support the new UE4.19 yet.
When I try to add the Paragon assets to my project it says that they can only be added to projects made in UE4.19
I am posting this question with the purpose of finding out if Epic Games intends to support more versions of UE4 such as UE4.17 in the future so that the Paragon assets can be added to older projects that are incapable of updating to 4.19.
If the plan IS to add this compatibility the I would like to know WHEN this will be made possible. If a date is not known then a rough estimate like Q3 2018 or something similar would be helpful.
IF the plan is NOT to add this compatibility in the future then this question becomes: Is there a work-around that we devs can use to get the Paragon assets into our older projects?
Since Paragon was developed well before 4.19 existed it makes sense that these Paragon assets should be fully compatible with previous versions of Unreal Engine like UE4.17
The effort does not worth to make them compatible. Also, all moves Epic does, is to encourage the use of newer versions. The GDC event made very clear UE 4.20 will be a most desirable version to have since there are brand new features and others which even experimental, people will want to try.
As for you having issues with plugins not updated to 4.19, you have to contact the seller by e-mail (check this clicking on the name) and asking for it. It there is no answer, you need to contact Marketplace support so they can contact themselves the seller and ask this as enforcement.
Which is the plugins btw? Version 4.19 is still young and with GDC the time for submissions have raised a bit, but there should at least be a 4.18 version.
PS: all my stuff Im still developing in 4.17, because I want to sell them compatible with that version and up, but the game projects I do make them compatible with latest engine version.
There are 5 things I bought on the UE Marketplace that I am waiting to become available for 4.19
They are:
Precedural Landscape Ecosystem
Ocean Material Pack
Realistic Ocean Simulator
Landscape Auto material
Ultimate River Tool
I posted in the comments of these items asking when they will support 4.19 but I have not gotten any reply.
Is this the email I should contact to ask them to contact the sellers to get them to support the most recent version of UE4? marketplace-support@unrealengine.com
FYI I got that email from the Marketplace FAQ
In the store if you click on the Seller name, you will get to a screen with their e-mail for support and contact. If after few days still no response you can use the marketplace support e-mail and make them contact the seller. A seller failing on returning contact for lacking support for a version might grant to you rights on a refund.
Just give them time. 4.19 has JUST come out. It takes time for the sellers to go through the approval process. They will ALL be working on their stuff.
Most of the time, you can just bring them into the project manually anyway, if Epic haven’t changed the engine to break the assets.
Are any of those code plugins?
Any Blueprint systems you can add to 4.19 projects right away, it is very rare nowadays that a newer Engine Version wouldn’t run content developed for the previous one.
Watch this video if you don’t know which boxes to check:
Yeah, I really really wish for a simple converter that would allow blueprints and other assets to be opened in older engine versions. It’s very suboptimal as a marketplace creator to be stuck with older editor versions just for the reasons you stated.
You even can already export a whole BP as a text file (Asset Actions->Export), but an import for those doesn’t seem to exist yet (or I can’t find it)
Yeah, tried pasting it, too, with the same result (I didn’t **really **expect it to work).
Looked promising, but it’s a dud atm. Even if import of those t3d files gets support in 4.20 or 4.21, we’ll still be stuck with 4.18/4.19 at that time.
I still hope someone more talented than me develops a converter tool, that saves files in a format readable by any chosen Editor version.
Source code is there, it should be relatively simple (if you can call anything simple) to use the save file function from 4.16 in a 4.19 plugin.
I’m kinda suspecting that it could even be possible to alter some bytes in the header of a file to make it readable in an older Editor version. It’s not that an older Editor version can’t cope with it, you just are not given the option to try. For all we know the file structure of a Blueprint Actor might be exactly the same in 4.17 and in 4.18 (I’m not saying it actually is).
okay so I do not get on the web much. So I did not hear about Paragon closing up shop till very recently. I spend a good $200+ on in game content even though it was a free game I had all the good stuff kinda like how I am on Fortnite (add me ISU_abolding) How do I get a refund? Please help me out!
