I purchased this pack  The quality of meshes and animations is top notch! Much better than the free animal pack many of us are using. I’ve only worked with the black bear so far, here is what I’ve found.

It’s too bad that out of the 80 animations for black bear, there is only 1 attack, and it has a walking animation baked into it but the animation has no root motion, somewhat defeating the purpose and making it difficult to use. It would be nice to have 4 attacks as standard - bite, claw swipe, standing swipe, and leap takedown. This would let us blend the idle attacks with walking/running 2d blendspaces or full IK control rig in Unreal, giving a lot more flexibility. Speaking of leap…why is there no standard jump animation? Bears like to jump into water or over streams and upwards to reach food or climb a tree. Some animations are a bit overexpressed like the hit_alerted ones, while others are too under expressed like idle_bark_01. The animations had really long file names, I had to rename them.

There is no physics asset or it is an auto-generated one which doesn’t work. When I ragdoll the black bear it goes all over the place and clips into the ground. You can test this quickly by dropping the physics asset into a level and hitting play, it will do the same thing.

Since the bear has different animations than the black bear, I wanted to try setting up an IK retargeter so I could share animations between them, but the skeleton/bone structure is totally different between them and the retargeter complains about unpredictable bone chains. No matter what settings I tried, different roots, pelvis, IK goals…I could not get the two bears to match even slightly, one of them would be far off the screen up in the air.

Attaching a mesh or actor to a bone or socket on the skeletal mesh makes it scaled way too big. What I found was that the bones are scaled 100x too big from the external art software, so I have to set the bone/socket scale to 0.01.

Anyhow I can work around the issues. It is a big upgrade from what I had before. If the other animals are of equal quality to the black bear, then I can fully endorse this product.
