Widget not working when too close to object? Any Workarounds?

I would like to put a widget directly over a plane such that it looks like its part of the screen’s material. However, if I place the widget flush on top of the plane, it won’t register with the widget interaction component. It doesn’t begin to work until it is at least 50 units away from the plane it is sitting upon.

Is there any way to get it to work even closer?

Does this have something to do with trace channels? I tried setting my widget interaction component’s trace channel to visibility and to camera and neither work when the widget is too close to the plane
