Why would this happen...? (pic)

When setting alignment to align georeferenced components…I get this…to my eye it’s obviously the same model, but it seems height is off in each batch of photos…why, and can I fix it easily?

Hello Nigel,

how did you georeference your components? Are all the components in the same vertical coordinate system?

The pictures were taken on three different cameras…

  1. A DJI FC350 flying on my drone

  2. A Pentax K3-ii

  3. A GoPro Hero 4.

I added the photos into RC and the first “alignment” attempt generated four separate components of a few hundred images each. RC said each component was georeferenced.

they were all extremely similar in form, so I re-ran the alignment process but changed the settings to “align georeferenced components even if there is no match”…the result is the image I originally posted.

I hope that helps. If the problem is something I’ve done wrong, please let me know!

Hi Nigel,

geo-referencing usually means that the model has known coordinates. You can either use laserscans, ground control points or GPS to achieve that. Do all of your cameras have GPS? Then the explanation is almost certainly that they all have slightly different positions. Also, the angles of the 3 loops are probably too big for RC to align them properly.
