The Unreal Engine is sht. 99% of all games made with it feel like sht. The systems do not work. Animations are sht. Loading time is sht. Workflow is sht. Unreal Engine can not read it’s own “uasset” files and tells you it does not know the unreal file extension - What a sht! Everything you touch up in this s**t engine will make problems, will not work correctly and feel clonky as hell if it works at some point. (You can feel it by playing 99% of games made with unreal). It feels horrible. Gaming will become a pain with thgis sht Engine used now by everyone. Time for a new hobby I guess. Welcome to the sht world of unreal. If it is to much sh*t, there is only one solution: Use a decent game engine that does not have it’s 100% main focus on visuals and nothing else. Unreal is good for videocreation maybe (As long as there are no animated characters, because it can not handle that well) But what can unreal handle well other than visuals? Right! Nothing! It is visually stunning garbadge. Other than the visuals it is a pile of useless sh’t.
Im sorry, but this is just a fact. A multibillion dollar company will not get any excuses on this! Invest in machanics and making the engine good for games, instead of investing all the money in graphics and visuals! ■■■■ off epic
However i agree not to level of: “it is ■■■■”, but
Unreal recently became investor engine not game or indie game engine.
They pump multiple new features with big buzzwords (to attract investors) all while current hardware (even that top of the line) cannot just use all that stuff.
Unreal is like one huge tech demo, that we (game devs) will not be able to use for 10 or so years. At least not in games that run on average steam system (read potato computers).
But Unreal does one great thing, it raises the bar for everybody else.
Ps.
About mechanics and polishing stuff, epic is long past size of dev team where it was doable. Try GODOT instead.
You are welcome to use Unity, Godot, Bevy, Roblox, Source, id Tech, Lumberyard, Stingray, Torque, or any one of the other game engines. (Except several of those listed don’t even exist anymore, so “will continue to exist” might be on your requirements list.)
I think you will find that no engine does your job for you. Delivering a good game is your job and making the gameplay feel good is your job, because every game is different.
The job of a game engine is to help you do that, and various engines take various approaches to this. Look around! Find the engine that helps you the most, and gets in your way the least. Then, do your job.
This is OS / User issue: Version-mismatch / file-corruption / OS file association.
If you want to say disparaging things about Epic ‘support’, then its a free world.
Epic for sure have no real idea what actual support is about. They never have!!!
Relying on paid mods so you don’t have to show up? That says it all right there.
But if you want to talk *** about the tech, and say the entire engine is ‘expletive’?
Then you risk highlighting your own weaknesses and ignorance there, mi amigo.
Not that UE5 is bullet proof. It has at least 2 years to go despite amazing demos.
Overall UE is still the best free engine that there is. Sorry if that truth kinda hurts.
