Why isn't 3Dconnexion supported?

Well with the recent announcement of Unreal engine adding VR + Motion control support with Rift and Vive to the editor then it looks like I really don’ t need this device anymore.

You dont but many who dont want to buy a VR headset do.
This should happen

Has anyone found any solutions to simply use the 3dconnectxion (puck) to work like game-pad axis or even key presses “In-game” (much less editor)?

I found this, but haven’t tested it:

For Oculus type VR navigation this could be a God-send. I know there will be all kinds of plenty of hand/motion tracking options, but for sitting at a desk, navigating your “body” (vs. your head tracking) pushing on a puck is going to be more natural for casual users (a.k.a. clients) than holding a game-pad. And for gamer’s - well they can use WASD blindfolded

Any movement on getting drivers for unreal? this needs to happen!!

On public damand  please do it

Still very interested in the feature. Please do it

Jumping on on the request for this feature as well. What a difference this would make. UE4 is the software I would find this tool to be most helpful. Please consider!

Any news on this? I’m going to contact 3Dconnexion to see if they have anything to say on it. I would have thought this would work out of the box on something like Unreal Engine.

Don’t despair! After 3 years, I’ve finally found a workaround!!!

  1. Uninstall UE4
  2. Install Unity
  3. Install the free SpaceNav plugin from Unity Asset Store
  4. Enjoy!

It’s not worth compromising with Unity’s lighting engine, sorry, but it seems if there’s such vocal support for implementing a smoov 6-axis controller like 3D-Connexion into UE4, then if we can send a man to the moon, this wouldn’t seem such a tall ask. I’d also support throwing in some bucks if crowd-sourcing someone to knock out a plugin. Regarding UE4 motion control for Vive and Rift, that’s not a solution for everyone. Most VR applications aren’t designed for full freedom of navigation, everyone is doing this slipping from node to node in space to then move your head around for looking and a bit of moving, IMHO a lame workaround to the motion sickness problem. Alternative display tech and approaches to navigation (slow it down) support fully immersive display of contiguous navigation. The 2-axis gamepad beats the heck out of jerky mouse movements, but still betrays mechanical limitations. What turns people on, and I’ve presented to many on large 3D projection setups, is cinematic motion. The gamepad gets you there, kinda, but the 6-axis Space Mouse is the ideal.

throwing in my support for 3Dconnexion compatibility. i use it in every program i can, and it would transform the navigation in UE. would pay for the plug-in if i had to

I guess we are better giving up on this. In a few months VR support advanced so much while 3dconnexion support is still only a request for years.

Never give up. I think this is one of those chicken and Egg conundrums. ANYONE who has used the 3d mouse accepts that it is far superior to working with just a mouse. Epic has said that there just isn’t that much call for it, but I think once it is in there you would see a heck of a lot more people using it. I use 8 Different Modeling/CAD/CAM Programs and the 3d mouse means that I can move and navigate freely, without having to remember awkward key combinations. Keep reminding them to get this incorporated into the engine. The work has been done, there is a plug in out there and it works just fine. It just needs to be more visible, or better yet incorporated into the engine itself.

Is there realy no way to do somthing. I’ve find a potential way but only works with an old version of UE (in my remember UE 4.10).
If it exist, it must be possible and maybe not so difficult to add the support by default.
I’ve write here and to 3dmouse connection but no one want to move to look with the other one. Hope so for it…

Please add me to the list of folks that needs a plugin for my 3d connexion. I would donate $ too, I wouldn’t know exactly how to put an order on freelancer in tho.

In an effort to keep everyone amused/annoyed, I just bought the Spacemouse Wireless and it is awesome… except when I have to work in UE4. It almost sounds like there is a financial/political reason this has failed to materialize. The geniuses at Epic can surely hack something together for us, but suspicion grows that it’s not a technical issue, but something else from higher ups holding up progress. Regardless, I’m still waiting, until I don’t.

I need this support too, because I have 3D space explorer about two years, but I don’t have possibles use it with my liked UE4… it is terrible for now…

another voice asking for support…would be very useful!

I am repeating my request for support for this technology! What the h377 is the problem?

One more vote from me
+1 for adding support 3d space mouse from 3D Connexion.
It real thing for navigation in 3D space while working in editor!
And ESPECIALLY - for camera setup !
Guys please add this feature… many DOP (Director Of Photograhy) will like it! if they just try this tech.
I personally working with animation project in UE… and we just dream about this feature
