I just DESTROYED a project because I can’t undo whatever checkbox in the Project Settings.
You can make a new empty project of the same version, copy it config ProjectName/Config , it the DefaultEngine.ini i think, then paste it into your Project/Config folder to reset to default.
Hey @ProfessorCollett,
To add on a bit more, you can also just delete your default engine.ini and a new one should be generated for you when opening your project again. If you need to you can also delete default editor, but that is more than likely not necessary.
I really want to thank you for getting back to me on this. However, I am old. I’m 53 and trying to adapt to this new workflow. I know NOTHING about writing game programs. I’m a film professor trying to get this introduced to my students. I have no idea what a .ini is. Here is what happened. I have a LARGE project. I built entire virtual sets in Blender then moved them to Unreal Engine 5 without ever having any experience. I have pre keyed chroma key assets in the UE5 model. I was learning Metahumans and animating them. When I went to reintroduce the green screen assets, I noticed that the shadows were no longer representing the keyed characters, rather just the large rectangle shape the image is put on. You see before I was using Masked layers but the fine details of hair were being lost and when a bright light source would hit them, it would look like a cardboard cutout with a sheen. So I discovered changing from Masked to Translucency. All I had to do was check a small box and I would have proper shadows. Anyway, when I cam back from doing all of the Metahuman animations the shadows were showing the rectangle when in Translucency. I searched everywhere and couldn’t find it. I thought it was because I upgraded to UE5.3 from 5.2 during the Metahuman learning. I read a couple posts about this and was directed to go into the Project Settings. A few minor changes suddenly made all of the green screen assets total black rectangles. I cannot get them back to showing the people in the green screen layer. Now, my Level Sequence that I have been using is not opening. As I stand now, the whole project is utterly destroyed.
I did a test of the green screen in a blank project to see if I can get the results I wanted and was successful.
I have no idea how to get everything back to the way it was so I can get on with it. I even tried to Export the Project Settings from a new blank project into my original project but that didn’t do anything. How can I undo ALL of the project setting changes I made? Any help would be great. Thank you!
Here is what I get when I try to open my Level Sequence. There is a great deal of animation in it. Including the Metahuman animations.
Here are a couple things that popped up after I deleted the .ini file and restarted.
I have no idea what they mean.
If you are doing anything non-trivial in software development, you should definitely be using a versioning system. With that you could have just “reverted all changes” with a few button clicks.
Either that or be super strict about making backups of backups of your entire project.
Make sure to enable RHI 12:
And enable the missing:
You should be able to edit your asset after that.
Is this to fix the Level Sequence? What could have caused it?
I think I’m going to have to completely rebuild the project from scratch. When I get started I will make it into a tutorial for it. When I do, I will be better at organization. What I mean is, putting different assets in different layer groups so I can turn them off and on when needed. Coming from a VFX background, I am still a bit confused as to how to render assets against an alpha channel with shadow catchers in UE5. In Blender it’s very easy, although it wasn’t when I started (2.63). My feeling is that I will have to render out different layers and comp them together later. I’d like to render the Green Screen assets in one pass. Then the Metahumans then the environment, etc. Any advice would be great. Just remember that i don’t know the details of the way UE5 works. I might not be familiar with some terms or concepts. One thing is for sure, UE5 is NOT Blender or After Effects. Thank you all for the help. I have a lot of people who worked on this production, and I can’t let them down.
Am not experienced in cinematic in unreal but you can use this node MF_Chromakeyer to get the green space transparent from your texture/clip:
