Why is my computer running VERY slowly with UE?

I don’t fully understand why I am getting significant issues when running UE for coding. I have plenty of hard drive space - saving the project files themselves on an external drive with a TON of space. My CPU and GPU are all decent (I have 12GB ram available on my GPU).

5.2 was crashing constantly, giving me virtual memory errors and just blocking/freezing. I am back on 5.1 and about to re-create my project but still… anyone have a clue what’s going on adn how to fix??

My setup:

The engine might be using that on-board GPU. To be sure, it’s best to disable it in the BIOS.

If you’re not sure which one it’s using, take a look in the task manager at runtime. Performance section, you can see both GPUs.

( You need to enable ‘always on top’ in task manager ( if not already ), and then run the editor ).

Gods, I didn’t even think of that. I’ve disabled it. I’ll be back to say of this was the solution or not.

Also, 16 GB of RAM is kind-of low, especially if you have a 12 GB GPU – the graphics drivers will want to allocate RAM to match the GPU RAM out of your system RAM for management and backup purposes.
If it is at all possible, I would look into upgrading to at least 32 GB of RAM.

It’s planned - trust me. LOL

So far, since disabling the internal drive, it is running a ton better. Thanks!
